'Nasi lemak', the national and traditional dish of Malaysia - coconut milk rice, served with sambal, fried crispy anchovies, toasted peanuts and cucumber.
This could be the best and most authentic Nasi Lemak recipe you can find.
Ingredients for nasi lemak :
1 . 2 cups of rice.
2 . 3 onions - sliced
3 . 2 inch ginger
4 . 1 cup coconut milk
5 . Pandan leaves
6 . Salt .
7 . 1 cup water
Ingredients for the sambal
1 . 3 onions - sliced .
2 . 2 cloves of garlic .
3 . 4 tbsp chilli paste.
4 . 2 tablespoons tamarind juice.
5 . 2 onions
6 . Salt .
7 . Enough sugar .
8 . Enough oil .
Other materials needed:
1 . 1 bowl of peanuts.
2 . 1 bowl anchovies.
3 . 3 eggs .
To do this:
1 . To prepare nasi lemak , first put in the rice , onion, ginger , pandan leaves , coconut milk, water and salt in a saucepan . Stir well. The water and milk should be measured equal to the rice . Cook for about 20 minutes or until rice is cooked.
2 . To prepare sambal , add onion, garlic, ginger and a little bit of water into a blender. Blend until smooth. Then heat some oil and fry until fragrant . Add chili paste and stir-fry until crisp .
3 . After that, add the tamarind juice , sugar , salt and onions that have been sliced . Cook until the onions wilt .
4 . Then, fry the anchoavies and peanuts until crisp . Remove from heat and drain the oil.
5 . Finally, boil eggs and nasi lemak is ready to be serve with the eggs , peanuts , fried anchovies and stir fry sambal . Add the cucumber if you wish . Try it!
