Muratabak was originally sold in Indian Muslim restaurants and stalls. The original version usually includes minced meat (beef or chicken, sometimes mutton) along with garlic, egg and onion. It is usually eaten with curry or gravy, and syrup-pickled onions.

This recipe is an improvised version of murtabak by the new generations where it incorporated instant noodle instead of meat. It is also well known as "murtabak maggi" at the mamak (Indian Muslim) restaurants.
